Moving for seniors is not only difficult but it is challenging. So how do we take 50 years of someone’s life and help them make a new home in much less space? The secret is having a truly functional design.
Our apartment offers everything you would want or need. We believe it starts right at the front door, with a convenience shelf for residents to decorate with your own personal style. Reminiscent of the front door of the home they are about to leave.
Upon entering the front hall you turn into a very pleasant large kitchen that offers room for a table and chairs for two. We have found, however, that residents have created a variety of uses for this area. Some set up a computer area while others have a portable pantry and additional shelving here. The kitchen also has wonderful open space above the kitchen cabinets which creates a perfect spot for displaying a beloved collection. The extra tall height of the kitchen cabinets helps to ensure that there is plenty of room for storage. The opening from the kitchen through to the living area provides a bright and cherry atmosphere.
While similar to our one-bedroom apartment this apartment has added square footage in the form of a dining room. The area designed for dining is definitely the most flexible space in the apartment. While our model apartment shows this area for formal dining, our residents use it for a variety of purposes. It is often set up as a study or computer area or can be incorporated into the living space to make a large living room. The versatility of this area allows our future residents to bring what is important to them in their current home to their new apartment home.
Off of the living area is a French door to a large balcony or patio that allows residents to bring the outside in. It is a lovely space for afternoon tea or tending to brightly colored flowers, without the laborious task of a large garden. Just perfect!
The bedroom is a completely functional size with room for a king sized bed, but a queen fits to perfection. The large closet with California Closet type shelving is a wonderful addition.
The bathroom is offered with a traditional tub/shower or a walk-in shower, your choice. The sink is centered in a nice sized cabinet with a stack of drawers for convenience. Grab bars are included if additional assistance is desired.
Then, although you would not believe there is room left, you approach a large closet that doubles as a coat closet and storage closet. This feature allows for comfortable storage for your out-of-season items. It is large enough that some residents have set-up this area as a sewing room or computer niche.
It is always a pleasure to show this one-bedroom apartment to prospective residents. This is because often before entering they are convinced it will not be big enough to suit their needs. Soon as we open the doors and bring them it their concerns are truly eliminated.
